Gus ValdespinoGustavo Valdespino, President and Chief Executive Officer

Gustavo Valdespino was appointed President and CEO in September 2009.  Mr.Valdespino is a seasoned leader with more than 25 years of hospital management experience. Prior to joining Valley Presbyterian Hospital, he served as Senior Vice President of Operations for Tenet Health Corporation’s Southern California region.  He also served as President and CEO of St. Vincent Medical Center and as CEO of Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Orange County. 
 
Mr. Valdespino has received the “Up and Comer” award from Modern Health Magazine, the National Medical Enterprises “Circle of Excellence” award, the Tenet Healthcare Corporation “Circle of Excellence” award, and the “Leading Hispanic Executive” award from Hispanic Business Magazine.

Mr. Valdespino holds a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook, a master’s degree in public health from the University of California, Los Angeles, and completed the Advanced Management Program at the Harvard Business School.

Lori CardleLori Cardle, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Lori Cardle was appointed Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in November 2012. She joined Valley Presbyterian Hospital in April 2011 as Assistant Chief Financial Officer and was promoted to Vice President of Finance in November 2011. Previously, Ms. Cardle worked at Alvarado Hospital in San Diego, where she served as Vice President of Revenue Cycle and Health Information Management and as Treasurer. She also has served as Chief Financial Officer at St. Vincent Medical Center and Brotman Medical Center.

As Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Ms. Cardle oversees Valley Presbyterian Hospital’s financial management and directs information technology needs. 

Ms. Cardle was awarded the “Women Who Mean Business” leadership team award in 2007 by the San Diego Business Journal.

Ms. Cardle holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from California State University, Fullerton, and is a MBA candidate at Pepperdine University.

Jean RicoJean Rico, Senior Vice President of Quality

Jean Rico was appointed Senior Vice President of Quality in February 2010. Ms. Rico brings more than 30 years of health care experience in quality improvement to Valley Presbyterian Hospital. Previously, Ms. Rico served as Vice President of Quality for St. Vincent Medical Center and as the Regional Quality Director for Tenet Healthcare, where she supervised quality and case management for 19 hospitals across California, Nevada, and Nebraska.

As Senior Vice President of Quality, Ms. Rico leads Valley Presbyterian Hospital’s efforts for continuous quality improvement. She is responsible for risk management, regulatory and accreditation requirements, quality improvement, case management, social services, patient satisfaction and compliance.

Pegi MatsudaPegi Matsuda, Senior Vice President, Community and Market Development
 

Pegi Matsuda was appointed Senior Vice President of Community and Market Development in June 2012. Previously, Ms. Matsuda served as Publisher and President of the San Fernando Valley Business Journal for 13 years. She has also spent 20 years working in Southern California corporations including GTE Telephone Operations and Sempra Energy.

As Senior Vice President of Community and Market Development, Ms. Matsuda is responsible for community programming and outreach, marketing, advertising, employee volunteer programs, development, media relations and internal communications.

Ms. Matsuda has received numerous awards, including recognition from the San Fernando Valley Bar Association, VICA, Haven Hills, and MEND. She was also honored in 2008 by the state of California as “Woman of the Year” by the 42nd Assembly District.

Ms. Matsuda received a Bachelor of Science degree in human relations and organizational behavior from the University of San Francisco and a Master of Arts degree in organizational leadership from Woodbury University.

Gayathri Jith

Gayathri S. Jith, Senior Vice President of Strategy & Operations

Gayathri S. Jith was appointed Senior Vice President of Strategy and Operations in November 2012. She joined Valley Presbyterian Hospital in March 2010 as the Vice President of Operations. Previously, Ms. Jith served as the Administrative Director for anesthesiology, critical care medicine, and imaging services for Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Ms. Jith also served as Director of patient access and revenue cycle, business development, and physician services for St. Vincent Medical Center.

As Senior Vice President of Strategy and Operations, Ms. Jith guides Valley Presbyterian Hospital’s health care reform efforts and oversees clinical, ancillary and support services.

Ms. Jith received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California, San Diego, and a Master of Public Health degree in healthcare management from the University of California, Los Angeles. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Michelle QuigleyMichelle Quigley, Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer

Michelle Quigley was appointed Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer in March 2011. She joined Valley Presbyterian Hospital from Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae, Calif., where she also served as Chief Nursing Officer.

As Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, she leads an expert team of more than 700 nurses and staff to expand Valley Presbyterian Hospital’s patient care and professional development capacity. She also oversees all rehabilitation services at Valley Presbyterian Hospital. 

Ms. Quigley is a member of the nursing honor society, Sigma Theta Tau, and has been featured in the “Who’s Who in American Women” publication series three times.

Ms. Quigley holds an associate’s degree in applied science in nursing from Prairie State College in Illinois, a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Governor’s State University in Illinois, and a Master of Science degree in nursing service administration from the University of Chicago.

Julie RebackJulie Reback, Vice President of Business Development

Julie Reback was appointed Vice President of Business Development in February 2010. Previously, Ms. Reback served as Vice President of Marketing and Planning at Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital in Whittier. Ms. Reback also served as Chief Development Officer for Tenet Healthcare and as Director of Marketing Services for Cedars-Sinai Health System.

As Vice President of Business Development, Ms. Reback seeks new business opportunities for the Valley Presbyterian Hospital through program development. She also oversees the fostering of physician integration by strengthening the partnership between Valley Presbyterian Hospital and its doctors.

Ms. Reback received a Bachelor of Science degree in public health from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Master of Health Services Administration degree from the University of Michigan.

Jonathan WuJonathan Wu, Vice President of Human Resources

Jonathan Wu was appointed Vice President of Human Resources in April 2013. Previously, he served as the Director of Human Resources at City of Hope in Duarte, Calif. Mr. Wu also held several roles at Methodist Hospital of Southern California in Arcadia, including Director of Human Resources and Occupational Health.

As Vice President of Human Resources, Mr. Wu is responsible for all functions of Human Resources at Valley Presbyterian Hospital, including learning and development, talent management, compensation, benefits, succession planning, talent acquisition, employee and labor relations, process improvement and organizational development.

Mr. Wu received a Bachelor of Science degree in management and human resources and an MBA from California Polytechnic University, Pomona.

Greg KayGreg Kay, M.D., Chairman
Partner, Natural Balance Pet Foods, Inc.


Dr. Kay serves on the senior management team for Natural Balance Pet Foods, Inc., and has been a member of the Valley Presbyterian Hospital board of directors since 2006. Dr. Kay received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and completed his residency at the Texas Heart Institute at the Baylor School of Medicine in Houston. Dr. Kay was regarded as one of the premier heart surgeons in Los Angeles before he stopped practicing cardiac surgery in 2004.

David FlemingDavid W. Fleming, Chairman Emeritus
Attorney, Latham & Watkins

Mr. Fleming is counsel at Latham & Watkins, one of the world’s largest law firms. He served as chairman of the board from 1988 through 2012. He also serves on the board of the Southern California Metropolitan Water District and Project Grad Los Angeles. Mr. Fleming is a former chairman of the board of the Valley Economic Alliance, a past chairman of the board of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, and founding chairman of the Los Angeles County Business Federation.

William AllenWilliam C. Allen, Secretary
President & CEO of the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation

Mr. Allen is president and CEO of the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp. Mr. Allen also is a member of the board of directors of the California Association of Local Economic Development, Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, Film L.A., and Unite L.A.

Matthew G. MischelMatthew G. Mischel, M.D.
Physician, Valley Internal Medicine & Nephrology Medical Group

Dr. Mischel is a board-certified internal medicine and nephrology physician, who has been part of the Valley Internal Medicine & Nephrology Medical Group since 1989. Dr. Mischel received his medical degree from the Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. He completed both his residency and internship at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Center for Health Sciences, where he also received a fellowship in nephrology.

James PorterJames Porter, Treasurer
Community Representative

Mr. Porter was a banker for more than 44 years before retiring in 2009. He is one of the most senior members of the board. In addition to earlier work in the Peace Corps, Mr. Porter has served in a variety of community service organizations, including the Civil Air Patrol, and Amateur Radio Emergency Services. He currently serves on the board for New Horizons.

LeRoy ChaseLeRoy Chase
President & CEO, Boys & Girls Club of the San Fernando Valley

Mr. Chase is the president and CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of San Fernando Valley. He has held leadership positions in various community and business organizations including the Sylmar, Sunland-Tujunga, and Pacoima chambers of commerce, the Valley Economic Alliance, the Corporation for Better Housing, and the Boys & Girls Club of America-Los Angeles Alliance.

Alex GuerreroAlex Guerrero
Executive Vice President, Tower General Contractors

Mr. Guerrero is the executive vice president of Tower General Contractors. Mr. Guerrero is a member of the VEDC and The Valley Community Clinic. He also is actively involved in Grey Save, an adoption group which saves former racing greyhounds from racetracks in Mexico.

Richard KatzRichard Katz
Owner, Richard Katz Consulting

Mr. Katz provides strategic consulting in government relations and public affairs through his firm, Richard Katz Consulting. He formerly served for 16 years as a member of the California State Assembly representing the San Fernando Valley. He has served as chair of Angelenos for Better Classrooms and is on the executive committee and boards of VICA, the Valley Economic Alliance, the Valley Economic Development Corp., and Valley Vote. He also is a board member of Queens Care Charitable Division, LA Children’s Museum, Heal the Bay, and Citizens for Reliable and Safe Highways (CRASH). Additionally, he serves on the advisory boards of Kids Safe and the Children’s Community School.

M. Ganesa PandianM. Ganesa Pandian M.D., F.A.C.C
Medical Director, Valley Presbyterian Hospital

Dr. Pandian is the Medical Director of Cardiology at Valley Presbyterian Hospital, as well as the Director of our STEMI receiving center. He is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the Subspecialty Board of Cardiovascular Disease. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Pandian received his medical degree from the University of Madras, India. He completed his internal medicine training at Misericordia Hospital of New York Medical College and his cardiology training at the Norwalk Hospital of Yale University.

Tracy RafterTracy Rafter
CEO, Los Angeles County Business Federation

Ms. Rafter is CEO of the Los Angeles County Business Federation (BizFed), a grassroots alliance representing more than 110,000 businesses across the region. Ms. Rafter also is a founder and principal of next-level media company, Impower LLC, and business advisory firm, Rafter Group, Inc. She is on the board of directors for LA’s Best After School Program, Junior Achievement, and Valley Economic Alliance. In 2005, Ms. Rafter was awarded "Business Woman of the Year" by the San Fernando Valley Business Journal.

Sridhar RamachandranSridhar Ramachandran, M.D.
Physician, Valley Presbyterian Hospital

Dr. Sridhar Ramachandran has been an active member of the medical staff at Valley Presbyterian Hospital since 1983. Dr. Ramachandran is board-certified in internal medicine and geriatrics. He completed medical school at Armed Forces Medical College, followed by an internship at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, N.Y., and a residency in internal medicine at Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Josh RokawJosh Rokaw, M.D.
Chief of Staff, Valley Presbyterian Hospital

Dr. Rokaw is a physician at Valley Presbyterian Hospital and serves as the hospital’s chief of staff. He attended medical school at Washington University, St. Louis, and completed both his internship and residency at the UCLA San Fernando Valley program. Dr. Rokaw is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and the American Diabetes Association.

President/Founder, Transcon Properties

Mr. Solomon is president of Transcon Property Services Inc. and the chief executive of PacificRealty Partners, two companies he founded and owns in Encino. Additionally, Mr. Solomon is an entrepreneur, business and real estate professional, and a certified public accountant.

Patrick WalshPatrick Walsh, M.D.
Vice Chief of Staff, Valley Presbyterian Hospital

Dr. Walsh has been a member the hospital’s medical staff since 1978 and currently serves as vice chief of staff. He attended medical school at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle. He finished his residency, internship, and fellowship at the Wadsworth Veterans Affairs Hospital in Los Angeles. He is board-certified in internal medicine and pulmonology.
