Who We Are

Valley Presbyterian Hospital first opened its doors over 60 years ago as a small, neighborhood provider. While we remain as independent as we were in 1958, today we have grown into a 350-bed full-service, non-profit community hospital, dedicated to the health and well-being of the diverse and challenged communities of the San Fernando Valley.

Our Goal

Our enduring goal is to be a vital asset to the community because for us, this Valley is not just an area of operation. It is our home. And its people are not just patients. They are our friends, our partners and our community. We build the facilities and services specifically focused on the needs of those in this community. We help patients manage and improve their health by providing access to a wide array of education and support. We serve our patients with respect by listening intently to care more effectively. And we consistently invest in our people, the most vital asset of all, building greater teamwork and communication that raises the quality of care for all our patients.

We understand that each of us has a vital role in our patients' health and well-being that unites our board of directors, the medical staff, hospital administrators, employees and volunteers. Founded as an independent, nonprofit community hospital in 1958, our goal has remained the same each day, to work together as a “family” to provide excellent care and service to improve health care in the San Fernando Valley.

Our Accomplishments

Our 350-bed hospital is one of the largest and most prestigious, full-service, acute care facilities in the San Fernando Valley, serving thousands of families each year. While our expertise and services have expanded over the years, we are still an independent, community hospital, voted “Best Hospital” by the readers of Los Angeles Daily News for nineteen years in a row (2006-2024).

With our focus on families, we have earned the Emergency Department Approved for Pediatrics (EDAP) designation for having specialized pediatric teams ready to assemble, triage and fast-track children to the care they urgently need. We are designated as a Pediatric Medical Center (PMC), which allows a team of pediatric specialists to treat and handle the higher level of care needed in our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). We are also a certified Cardiac STEMI Receiving Center, providing critical care for heart attack patients, and a Primary Stroke Center, based on our training and techniques to support better outcomes for stroke care. In Spring 2024, we were awarded the top Safety Grade "A" by Leapfrog Group, widely regarded as the gold standard measure of patient safety. Read the Press Release. In addition, in May 2024, we received a Bronze designation in the California Department of Public Health's Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI) Antimicrobial Stewardship Honor Roll.

Ventura Boulevard’s restaurant row is the Sunset Boulevard of the Valley, with bars and restaurants for every taste. Free cultural excursions abound with the Getty Museum and NoHo Arts District only a short drive away.

Nearby, the Japanese Gardens and Lake Balboa Park offer a public jogging path, playground, lakes, tennis courts, and meditative scenery, or hike the Santa Susana Mountain trails and Mulholland Drive with breathtaking views.

We also share our neighborhood with Universal Studio’s CityWalk, a major movie studio with outdoor restaurants, attractions, and shopping, and Six Flags Magic Mountain with thrilling rides.

And when adventure calls to other destinations, Hollywood Burbank Airport is just six miles down Vanowen Street.

A lot has changed in the San Fernando Valley since Valley Presbyterian Hospital was built in 1958, including becoming more racially diverse.
