Community Benefit

As a non-profit community hospital, we value collaboration and are proud to be here with the support of our community, without affiliation with a large healthcare system.

To improve the quality of healthcare in the San Fernando Valley, we conduct an annual census of our services and partnerships with other organizations throughout the year, which is compiled into an annual report. The decision for services and partnerships is based on our Community Health Needs Assessment and Community Benefit Implementation Strategy (see below.)

Community Health Needs Assessment

Since 1997 a triennial Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) has identified the most pressing healthcare needs in the region. In 2021, we conducted a CHNA of the 882,305 residents located in our racially and economically diverse service area, which includes 15 primary ZIP codes in 9 cities in the San Fernando valley in Los Angeles County, and over 40 secondary ZIP codes in the Santa Clarita and Antelope valleys, and a portion of the city of Simi Valley in Ventura County. In compliance with California's Senate Bill 697 to meet new requirements under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, we contracted Biel Consulting, Inc. to review state and county sources, collect data, and document community assets and resources. This research resulted in a list of the 15 most immediate health needs for the region.

Community Benefit Implementation Strategy

We created a Community Benefit Implementation Strategy based on the triennial Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA), above. This strategy focuses on how we plan to address significant health needs identified in the CHNA and describes actions the hospital intends to take, including programs and resources it plans to commit; anticipated impacts of those actions; and partnerships with other organizations.

340B: A Federal Program Supporting Safety-Net Providers

The 340B prescription drug program supports our role as a safety-net provider in offering vital healthcare services for the community we serve. The program is narrowly tailored to only hospitals that provide a high level of services to low-income individuals or serve isolated rural communities. Click here for more information.
