Community Health & Wellness
As part of our commitment to the San Fernando Valley community we serve, Valley Presbyterian Hospital (VPH) conducts Community Health Needs Assessments (CHNA) every three years and adopts Implementation Strategies to meet the health needs that are identified. One of the top three priorities that we discovered in our last CHNA was the need for preventive practices. We found that a lack of preventive care was a challenge and barrier related to chronic disease such as diabetes and heart disease, as well as physical and mental health problems such as stress. Many people in our community believe that it is too expensive to have a healthy lifestyle even if it can help prevent and manage diseases, and reduce re-hospitalizations.
To address this, some of the free preventative health and wellness services that VPH provides include:
- Free community classes - Throughout the year on our main hospital campus we provide educational classes on Diabetes, Maternity, Baby Care, CPR/First Aid, Healthy Maturity Exercising, Women's Health, and other topics.
- Free community events - In addition, we host community events such as our Annual Health & Wellness Fair with free flu shots, health screenings, information booths, and other activities.
- Health & Wellness FAQs and Resources - Click through to find helpful information on a variety of topics including how to care for your immune system, getting the right nutrition, vitamin and mineral supplements, breastfeeding, exercising guidelines, maintaining a healthy weight, getting enough sleep, coping with stress, and dealing with alcohol, drug and smoking addictions.
