At Valley Presbyterian Hospital, our teams provide specialized treatments for diabetes and complications from it, using the latest technology and personalized care. We also have educational resources to help you manage your diabetes. Below are some of the services and information we offer.
Classes
Live Well With Diabetes
Valley Presbyterian Hospital offers a free bilingual class (English/Spanish) with the steps needed to successfully manage Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. It includes interactive presentations and discussions with a dietitian, fitness instructor, and diabetes care and education specialist on how to prevent hypoglycemia, prepare and inject insulin, manage stress, and ensure proper nutrition and exercise, which are essential in diabetes management.

Healthy Maturity
Valley Presbyterian Hospital offers a free weekly exercise class for seniors in partnership with Bernardi Senior Center in Van Nuys, with activities that can help reduce the risk of diabetes. Taught by a Certified Fitness Instructor and Yoga Teacher, this class is designed for adults over the age of 50, and includes exercises for strength building, balance, endurance, and more. Walk-in registration, held on Fridays at 10:00 AM.

Breastfeeding Preparation
Studies show the benefits of breastfeeding include lowering the baby's risk for Type 1 diabetes and the mother's risk for Type 2 diabetes. Valley Presbyterian Hospital offers a free breastfeeding preparation class so you can feel comfortable feeding your newborn while in our Maternity unit and after you take your baby home.

Every October, Valley Presbyterian Hospital hosts an annual Health & Wellness Community Fair, with more than a dozen organizations providing fresh produce distribution, lunch, health education materials, and other resources.

Center for Wound Healing
Diabetes often results in poor circulation and nerve damage (neuropathy), which can lead to foot problems, including wounds that refuse to heal. At the Center for Wound Healing, our team offers a complete range of individualized patient education and treatment plans to help at-risk patients with diabetes control and manage their wounds. Diabetes can also put patients at risk for amputation. Our main goal is amputation prevention, with a wide range of limb-saving procedures.
