Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

The Valley Presbyterian Hospital Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) provides high quality care and treatment to critically ill children in our community. With 10 beds, our PICU is one of the largest in the San Fernando Valley area. In 2017, our hospital was designated a Pediatric Medical Center (PMC), recognized by the County of Los Angeles, which allows pediatric specialists to treat and handle a higher level of care needed for patients in our PICU.

Upon admission, your child will be in the care of a dedicated pediatric intensivist, part of a multidisciplinary team of pediatric specialists dedicated to your child's diagnosis and treatment. The staff also includes pediatric critical-care nurses who have received additional training and certification in caring for seriously ill or injured children.

Our PICU is designed to encourage family interaction and comfort through the treatment and recovery process. This family-centered philosophy recognizes the vital importance of caregiver involvement in the treatment and ongoing care of a young patient. Your intensivist and other members of the health care team will inform you of your child's treatment and condition. They will also coordinate care with your primary care physician to ensure ongoing care after discharge from the hospital.
