Speech Therapy
Restoring Communication Skills
Our highly skilled speech pathologists (speech therapists) provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment for a variety of disorders, with a concentration in the areas of speech, language, cognition, and swallow function. As part of an interdisciplinary team of medical experts, our speech therapists provide personalized care for your specific needs with inpatient services while you are in the hospital, as well as outpatient services. We also offer bedside inpatient services for adults in our acute Valley Rehabilitation Center.
We utilize a variety of tests to evaluate your condition and help determine a treatment plan. For example, we perform video swallow studies in conjunction with our radiology department. Sometimes called a modified barium swallow study, it is used to assess swallow function for the treatment of dysphagia, or swallowing difficulty.
During treatment, our pathologists use a number of the latest techniques and resources, working side-by-side with you to improve speech function, and offset any difficulties you may be experiencing. Our goal is to help improve your ability to communicate with and understand others, and to reach the best possible outcomes.
We treat a broad range of conditions and disorders including:
- Brain injury (acquired or traumatic)
- Stroke
- Critical illness myopathy
- Parkinson's disease
- Spinal cord injury
- Post-concussion syndrome
- Developmental disorders
- Other neurological disorders
- Speech disorders such as apraxia and dysarthria
- Language disorders such as aphasia
- Stuttering
- Swallowing disorders
- Voice disorders such as paradoxical vocal cord dysfunction
