Prepare for Your Stay

Your journey to parenthood is almost complete. You are excited to be making final plans for the trip to the hospital, and as with most everything in life, planning ahead will help to ensure you have the best delivery experience possible. The big day will be here sooner than you think, so it's important to complete your hospital preregistration at Valley Presbyterian Hospital no later than the sixth month of your pregnancy. To request an Obstetrics preregistration packet, please call 818.902.5246. In addition to your preregistration, there are other items you'll want to check off your list.

Pack Your Bag

As you've either heard or learned by now, babies give little advance notice to signal their arrival. Packing an overnight bag and leaving it by your front door means you and your family can quickly and easily locate the items you'll need for your hospital stay.

Below are essential items for your labor and delivery packing list. Download the list along with other information about the ongoing support and care, and free classes we offer to help you prepare for your new baby.

  • Doctor/Clinic contact information
  • Prenatal records from obstetrician provider
  • Insurance card
  • Identification card
  • Emergency contact list
  • Advance directive (if available)
  • Toothbrush
  • Toothpaste
  • Deodorant
  • Shampoo
  • Hairbrush
  • Relaxation items for labor
  • Robe
  • Button-down nightgown or pajamas
  • Nursing bra
  • Going-home outfit for mom
  • Going-home outfit for baby
  • Blanket for baby
  • Infant car seat (must be installed in the vehicle)

California law requires that all newborns be transported in a car seat. Please make sure you know how to properly install and operate your infant car seat. Following the California car seat and seat belt laws can help protect your family, avoid fines, and most importantly, save lives.
